Inquiry into the future of the Wales and Borders Rail

Evidence from William Bamford– WBF 37

Dear Sir/Madam

I would like to propose looking into the logistics of reconnecting North and South Wales by rail. It seems ludicrous that to travel from the north to the south of the country a diversion through England is necessary. A rail service linking the length of the country, by reinstating the track between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen would I believe be greatly beneficial in integrating and fully connecting the country.

Whilst the initial outlay would doubtless be significant, the benefits could very well continue to be realised generations down the line (no pun intended), particularly as the cost of private transportation will continue to rise over time. It may also allow more freight to be taken off the roads and would provide a hugely beneficial transport link for the country for goods, services and people.

I strongly believe that options to reconnect Wales by rail, north to south have to be looked at seriously.

Yours sincerely
William Bamford
